The 5th Annual Hydrographic Conference
HYPACK 2010

From the 1st till the 3rd of February 2010 Odesa National Maritime Academy held the fifth annual conference on hydrography and dredging work "HYPACK-2010".

"HYPACK-2010" is a software product which helps to do soundings and dredging works. This software program makes it possible to calculate with the given accuracy the capacity of soil during the dredging work, to define the depth of given areas, to create 3D patterns of underwater objects that are studied. As a result it saves much time on every stage of the work. The main goal of the conference was to show all users of HYPACK new opportunities of the updated version.

The conference brought together the representatives of different organizations making hydrographical research and dredging work. The conference was conducted by Pat Sanders (USA), the founder and the President of the HYPACK Company, and by Ivan Isaak, the 1st category hydrographer working as a teacher at the Academy who is an official representative of HYPACK in Ukraine. The following issues were considered: preparation for the HYPACK filming, equipment calibration, SURVEY, DREDGEPACK and HYSWEEP filming, materials processing, making the reports in the form of worksheets and charts, 3D patterns and etc. After the new program opportunities were shown, the general knowledge of HYPACK and its new opportunities was tested.

All participants of the conference came to the conclusion that HYPACK should be implemented to the educational process, as well as studying SURVEY, HYSWEEP and DREDGEPACK models that are of great help during hydrographical and dredging work.

Reference:

The program package for making hydrographical survey HYPACK® Max can be used for almost all hydrographical tasks including survey planning, the survey itself, and the final product in the form of printed worksheets, export of data in GIS format (DXF, DGN and others), and also calculation of capacities in the process of dredging work and creation of ENC in S57 format. Using this package one can carry out a number of tasks, namely: traditional soundings with the help of a single-beem echometer, shooting by side-scan sonar device, territorial examination by multibeam ultrasonic complex, analysis of bottom setting with the help of a sea-bed profilograph or magnetometer, etc. This software package is gaining more and more popularity with hydrographers all over world.
