The day of Cadets 2014 Initiation

The solemn ceremony of students initiation into cadets was held at Odessa National Maritime Academy on September 26. It has now been 70 years since Odessa Higher Marine School (OHMS) was created, which received the status of the Academy in 1991, and in 2002 the status of the national educational institution. The years of hard work and achievements on the way to new heights have gone by. The Academy has made significant contribution to the marine science and education development over the years. Today, Odessa National Maritime Academy (ONMA) is one of the world's leading maritime educational institutions.

The Academy successfully implements such main tasks as: ensuring high standards of education and practical training, further expansion of partnerships with leading shipping companies of the world, combination of educational activities with research, involvement of the best graduates of general secondary education in all regions of Ukraine and other countries of the world to the academy training.

Cadets - one of the most memorable events of cadet life. Traditionally, the initiation ceremony is a solemn oath, in which first-year students promise to respect the regulations of the Academy and proudly bear the title of cadets, spare no effort and time on comprehending of sciences, use the acquired knowledge for the benefit of native land and country, preserve and develop the academy traditions, develop cadets' and socially significant initiatives and actively participate in their implementation, share their experience and knowledge with the following recruits.

This year, more than 700 people have been accepted to the first course of full-time education of the educational establishment, and including the branches (Azov Maritime Institute, Izmail Faculty, the Seafaring College of Technical Fleet and the Maritime College named after O.I. Marinesko) and students of part-time education it is more than 2,500 people.

New military training units and military division of the Seafaring College of Technical Fleet have been created according to the government decree by joint order of the Minister of Defence and Minister of Education and Science at the Academy this year. Military training specialists for the Ukrainian Naval Forces is the main activity of the faculty and the department. The first course of these units has accepted 130 cadets. ONMA has taken the cadets of Naval Academy named after P.S. Nakhimov (Sevastopol) for continuing their education at the senior courses of created faculty.

All the events held by the Academy in 2014 are dedicated to its 70th anniversary. Leaders of Regional State Administration, Regional and City Council, the command of the Naval Forces and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Academy partners were invited to the ceremony. The Academy called upon the following guests: Igor Vladimirovich Tymchuk First Deputy Commander of the Ukrainian Naval Forces, the garrison commander Rear Admiral; Sergey Rafailovich Grinevetskiy People's Deputy of Ukraine, member of the Supervisory Council; Alexsander Lvovich Malin Acting Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine; Pavel Bulanovich Georgievitch Chairman of State Inspection of Ukraine on Security of Maritime and River Transport; Oleg Borisovich Bryndak the Secretary of Odessa City Council; Igor Victorovich Safin Director of "V-Ships. Ukraine", Candidate of Technical Sciences, Prof.

There was the ceremony of cadets 2014 initiation, rewarding cadets who have been in the area of ATO on the order 454 of 11.08.14, S.S.Savchenko - was awarded the Order "For Courage" of the 3rd degree for personal courage and heroism in the protection of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and Y.I Ostroukhova. - was awarded decisive actions, courage and bravery during combat missions, for military virtue. Cadets were presented with student cards, credit books, cadet badges, photographs with parents, solemn march of 1st year cadets and festive concert took place during the celebration. Opening of two new simulators was held.

The Project of creating a new navigation simulator training on 6 bridges was implemented with the help of V.Ships (Monaco) and MSC (Switzerland) companies. Navigation simulator NTPRO 5000 by TRANSAS company enables to conduct training and certification of deck officers, chief officers, masters and pilots in full compliance with the requirements of the International Convention and the STCW Code with the 2010 Manila amendments. Complex of hardware and software simulator imitates all the basic functions of vessel traffic control system,and it provides the instructor the ability to create different navigation areas, to operate the vessels, and to create a variety of training tasks and scenarios. The simulator includes 8 different types of vessel and 7 navigation areas and development of training tasks variants. Moreover, the room is equipped for discussing the training results with training tasks visualization on a large display.

The Academy together with "Odessa Maritime Training Centre" have implemented a project of creating a new laboratory and simulator complex for marine electrical engineers training. When creating, the Academy has been sponsored by such companies as: OSM (Norway), Mitsubishi Electric (Japan), Siemens (Germany), Schneider Electric (France), SELCO A / S (Denmark), "CSC-Automation" and "Concern" Ksimeks "(Ukraine). The Full Mission Simulator Complex of Ship Automated Electrical Power System provides practical training and competence assurance of officers on the functions of "Electrical equipment, electronics and control systems" and "Maintenance and Repair" entirely meets the STCW requirements with the Manila amendments. The simulator is carried out on real and automation equipments, corresponding to the real configuration and layout of ship automated power plant with real consumers and typical load.

Besides, the Academy has accepted sponsorship for the purchase of computer, presentation equipment and software, material procurement from the following companies during the year : MO Ship Management Co. (Japan), Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, Peter Dohle Group, Nordic Hamburg (Germany), the Trade Union of Maritime Transport of Ukraine and the Charity Foundation "Sea friendship."
